Second Lavender

Since 2018, I’ve been releasing (and deleting) ambient and experimental works under the name Second Lavender. Since the beginning, I’ve never really wanted much more than the creative freedom to experiment with sound, which this project has allowed me to do.

Between 2019 and 2025, I made no public releases, but I never stopped working on my craft. In the summer of 2025, while recovering from surgery, I decided to release on Bandcamp once per week in June. This helped me build the momentum I needed to embark on scoring my first film.

Film Scores

Planespotting (Original Film Score)

2026

From the summer of 2025, I worked closely with director Keaton Knapp to craft this ambient and drone score for his film. Because the short’s runtime was less than 15 minutes, I decided to release the album with extended versions of tracks from the film, along with finished versions of demos I was working on during production, including on set.

The sonic palette here is in the wheelhouse I’ve been in since 2018, so I’m eager for future projects pushing me in a new direction.

Releases

Sonder

2025 · Single

Last in the series of tracks I released in June, Sonder, was produced at the tail end of my recovery from surgery in 2025. On its own, I love the tone of it, but in the context of the other tracks released this month, it caps things off quite nicely.

In retrospect, this track’s importance is hard to overstate. It ended up becoming the sonic backbone of my first film score, Planespotting. This version of the track might not be as polished as the abridged version which ended up on the Planespotting album, but it has a special place in my heart.

Wanderlust (2019 Demo and 2025 Redux)

2025 · Album

The original, sloppier version of Wanderlust from 2019 paired with the cleaner redux produced this year. The 2019 version has a charm to it that I like, but it lacks the polish that I enjoy in the new one.

I think this release is one of those reminders for me of where I started, where I am now, and how far I’ve come.

Higher Self (Guided and Unguided)

Find your higher self.

Hanging Out (feat. ollo11)

2025 · Single

The loop that is the foundation of this track was recorded exactly seven years and one day before this release during a session I had with Ollo, who I had met months earlier at a show.

The North Slope

2025 · Single

From what originally started as a basic demo from 2019, The North Slope was one of the earlier tracks I ever worked on. As I listen, I feel cold and light as the metallic drones slowly ebb and flow. I really get lost in this one.

After years of not publishing any work, leaving the world only with (in my opinion) the worst of what I have to offer from when I first started making ambient music, I’m ready to get back to it. And what better way to start than with a feature-length drone track?

It’s good to get back home.

Lavender

2019 · Album

Where it all started. In 2017, I downloaded a bunch of random music production software and started experimenting, and in 2018 I kinda started taking it seriously. I loved weird sounds, so I thought an experimental ambient vibe would be right for me, especially because I was under the misapprehension that I didn’t need to know music theory to make experimental ambient music. I was kinda right in that I made an experimental ambient album without knowing music theory. Is it good, though? Actually, yeah, some of it is kinda great. A lot of it sucks though, especially the technical side of it like mixing. I released this a year into starting to experiment with music, mainly to show myself I could, and it shows. Feel free to skip this one.

I’ve been DJing since just before the pandemic started, but it’s always been a private hobby. It’s never been my primary focus musically, but I really enjoy it. I’ve only ever performed techno live once for real and it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. Someone let me DJ in front of another crowd, please!

DJ Sets

Nila’s Basement

2024

A recording of me practicing the first techno set I performed in front of people who actually paid to be there (and are not being forcefully subjected to my music). You know that stereotype of the old guy who wears a letterman jacket, peaked in high school, and won’t shut up about how he was a star quarterback? That’s me with this DJ set.
